Geez… I remember making my dad drive me to the game store to stand in line to buy that. Thanks for the reminder.

I’m just a bit older I could drive already and next year the DM’s Guide will be 40.

I had to ride my bike up to the local hobby shop to get my AD&D stuff, and to drool over all the lead figures I wanted to get but couldn’t afford to get everything I wanted.

I still have my original August 1978 edition of the AD&D Player’s Handbook! Excellent binding!!! Never again has a game book been that strong. The '79 DMG didn’t even last a year!

I didn’t even hear about role playing games in the UK until around the 1980s. So I can’t come up with any stories to match the others here. However, I’ve still got my original 1ed copy of the Fiend Folio. FWIW, I’ve still got some Citadel miniatures including WP1 Kindly Wizard (with a sword hidden behind his back), WP3 the Complete Adventurer (carries everything including the kitchen sink) and WP5 Dwarf with an Inferiority Complex (Walks on Stilts). (They might have been designated WF instead of WP can’t remember)

I made the mistake of selling my 1st edition books except for Fiend Folio and Deity and Demigods (I had a second printing version, a friend had the first printing the God’s and the four fictional groups.)
