Community Patch and Update

As there was a game update released yesterday, just hours before I returned to NWN, I am wondering if anyone has noticed game-breaking conflicts between that update and the community patch as it stands? I had meant to front load the community patch prior to even playing the campaign. Now I’m not so sure.

Hi, by the default since CPP takes lowest priority, it shouldn’t cause problems, it should make it forwards compatible too.

But I cannot promise that and I know that there is at least one incompatibility with CPP and even previous EE patch. One of the tileset gained new tiles in one of the older EE updates. CPP has that tileset configuration file without that tile. Therefore if you encounter that tile in game, it will crash.

However, since standard campaigns weren’t updated and thus are not using such tile, neither pre-existing custom content is, it was issue that you would only encounter in multiplayer.

I am aware of that, and the issue is fixed, but I didn’t have time to make a fully-fledged update of CPP. Because CPP is anti-promoted and slandered on nwn discords and less and less players are using it, I lost mood to work on it anymore. From time to time I upload some new fix like yesterday on github, but that requires knowledge of how to install it. So not very useful for end user.

Anyway. This applies if you installed CPP correctly. If you are using Project FUBAR which basically stole CPP files and is telling users to install it into override, then you can get tons of issues. I am not affiliated with that in any way, I didn’t give consent (not that consent was needed, because other cc creators and prominent figures of nwn scene forced me in past to make it open without any restrictions or else…). and I am not in touch with its author.

Regarding the last EE update, unfortunately I cannot tell you for sure because I didn’t update and I am not planning to for reasons I rather not disclose here or it will cause another wave.

But when dealing with crashes and other game-breaking problems (what else would that be?) always start (temporary) uninstalling all custom content you downloaded and installed to make sure your issue isn’t caused by it. If removal of custom content resolved issue, then the problem is not in base game but said custom content So if you uninstall CPP and problem is resolved, there indeed has to be something wrong. If that is the case, then if you send me savegame where I could reproduce it, I can try look into it.

Few more peoples reported colored icons not working. I re-read changelog.

The game now has a new keytable, nwn_retail.key (+ various bif), with the contents of the ovr/ directory.

This prevents CPP to work on new patch at all. As of last patch CPP doesn’t work.

One option would be to put the files into override folder, like FUBAR tells you to, but that is not intented and can cause incompatibilities with other custom content, especially since the order of loading overrides from steam is unknown.

You can try it for now if you really want CPP to work. I will have to look into it and make new version.

Any efforts you can make to get CPP functional again in NWN:EE would be most welcome and appreciated!
