Dual Challenge Again

Custom Content Challenge - April 2023 : Supermarionation is Go!

And

Custom Content Challenge - April 2023 : The world of Tolkien

Theme one for this month’s challenge: “Supermarionation is Go!”

Autumn 2015 was the 50th anniversary of the 60’s hit TV show “Thunderbirds”. So I think it is well past time to have a CCC covering all (well maybe not Terrahawks :stuck_out_tongue: ) of Gerry Anderson’s puppet shows from “Four Feather Falls” up to and including “Joe 90”. There are the vehicles, the clothes, the characters, the locations (Tracy Island anyone), the sounds, etc. At a pinch, I suppose you could include his live action shows as well (but not the awful live action Thunderbirds movie).

This theme was suggested by Tarot Redhand.

Theme one for this month’s challenge: “The world of Tolkien”

I’m assuming pretty much everyone is familiar with the works of Tolkien. His stuff has been a huge influence on the creation of D&D and it would be great to pay tribute to this in the game of NWN. Submissions could include anything from new creatures and character models (Uruk Hai, Gollum, Shelob, Giant Eagles, Balrog), weapons and armour (Gondor armour, Sting, Glamdring, Narsil), iconic locations and tilesets (the Prancing Pony Inn, Weathertop, Rivendell, Hobbitton), portraits, scripts - whatever. There’s plenty of scope for creation, something which should suit modders of all abilities.

This theme was suggested by Beefheart.

Guidelines:

  • It must be fully working in game.
  • Use of vanilla NWN or publicly available texture is fine. Just remember that NWN textures must have dimensions in powers of 2 (2, 4, 8, 16, 32, etc.).
  • Teamwork is welcome.
  • Beginners most welcome. Don’t be afraid, just try, you’ll be surprised!
  • “Custom Content” includes many sorts of things: models, scripts, prefabs (areas, items, creatures, conversations, quests, etc.), sounds, portraits, or anything else new for the game.
  • All submissions must be finished, working, and emailed to nwvaultccchallenge@gmail.com (or a non-Vault link provided) by the first of the following month. Sooner than that is perfectly fine too.

Some things you could include in the download/email that would make packaging everything up easier and faster:

  • Any 2da lines needed.
  • Screenshot from in game for use on the Vault page. Formats: .bmp, .jpg, .png, or .tga
  • Portraits (if needed) of your new goody. Placeables and monsters should include a portrait.
  • Inventory icons (if needed) of your new goody.
  • Any credits you would like listed.
  • If this is your first entry, please tell me what name you would like your work listed under and provide a link to your other NWN content if you want that displayed as well (the link bit is totally optional).
  • Remember, the Challenge is all about fun, sharing, creativity, and surprise!

This thread is for all sorts of discussion about this month’s theme: ideas for things to make, questions/concerns, announcement of what you intend to make, screen-shots of work in progress and/or finished projects.

If you want to discuss the Monthly Custom Content Challenge idea as a whole or wish to submit ideas/themes for future monthly Challenges, please post in its thread here - Custom Content Challenge - Theme Suggestions.

When submitting a new theme, please provide a title and short summary of the theme.

If you have a technical question about some custom content creation, please create a separate thread so that the answers can be found later by anyone, not just people interested in this Challenge.

We’ll try to help!

Have no fear and join the fun!

I still have “the one ring” in the sleeve, which makes the wearer invisible “on equip”. But I’m somehow not satisfied with it.

As the original, I would like to have some vfx which changes the vision of the bearer “on equip”; a blur effect or maybe turning everything to b/w.

On HotU, the “ring wearing effect” is done with the area-lighting, that is something I want to avoid. Have you ever noticed that there is no day/night change in chapter 3?

Any suggestions from the comunity welcome.

Supermarionation is Go!

For those unfamiliar with the TV series created by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson here are links to the respective wikipedia pages for each series. Immediately following those are links to a large selection of (google) images from each series.

Supermarionation is Go!

Over the years I have collected quite a few old, free models of various Gerry Anderson craft. A few are actually from the Celestia Motherload site. There may be one or two from other sites but the most are from the Gerry Anderson Craft site. This latter site is well over 20 years old and the vast majority of the links on there are now long dead. Thing is my initial thought was to convert the models to NwN mdl format. Alas, I have come across things in all of them that would need to be fixed before that could happen. Things like models that have numerous textures instead of a texture map and models that consist of multiple sub-models. In addition, most are movie not game quality too. In other words they are beyond my meagre abilities to fix. So, in case anybody is willing to look into maybe having a go at doing the conversion(s) here are links to various models. I have placed them into separate archives depending on the show they relate to. In the archives are all the files that were in the original downloads. The smallest archives are actually in this post but most are housed in my dropbox account. Here is a list of each archive, what they contain and the various model formats.

Thanks. FWIW, I think the Fireball XL5 Jetmobiles would be a good addition for D20 Modern.

One final thing, I’ll be removing the file links in this post on the 1st May 2023.

Halfway through the month. Is anybody making anything for either theme?

TR

Thanks for the superb collection of links, I was having troubles finding such excellent examples.

Many are very high poly and it will take some work to simplify them. (But a few of them are very promising )

Gotta find more time… :hourglass:

1 week left.

@Killmonger I would guess that the three buildings and the Jetbikes would take the least amount of time and that the exterior of the Black Rock Base has a much lower poly count. But whatever you go with is fine.

LotR suggestion - Anyone want to make flags and/or banners based on those from the movies?

Somebody get those ships up and running. These armor sets are coming

Last day. As I could only find 2 lotr flags that had the wrong aspect ratio for lisa’s method and I don’t know how to either add a “wind effect” mesh (whatever it’s called), I’ll post them here if anyone wants to play with them. Both textures are large and have been adjusted to have the correct power of 2 aspect ratio. There’s both Gondor -

and Rohan -

Is there an alternative to NWNArmory?
Mine is completely borked and warps the converted parts for other races even after a complete reinstall.
I do not have the time to troubleshoot it right now. So I’m taking suggestions for any other parts converter app.

also my entry will be delayed because I am doing every part for each race individually.

Not a problem. Seeing as your’s is the only entry for this month there is no problem as long as I get it before the end of May. :smiley_cat:

As it was a dual challenge and nobody submitted anything for “The world of Tolkien”, I have created (aka slung together) some LotR maps. 4 walkable sized (10x10, 20x20, 30x30 and 40x40 metre sized) and 2 decorative ones (horizontal and vertical). Here’s the large (but shrunk for the forum) texture -

And the small texture -
