Custom Content Challenge - April/May 2024: Dwarves!

Dwarves!

All things dwarf related, including dwarven-scale furniture, blacksmithies, dwarf merchant wagon, dwarven pantheon symbols, dwarf children, (Chultan) wild dwarves, arctic dwarves, new beards and heads, dwarf tossing, drinking mugs, statues, beer barrel armor, …

Guidelines:

  • It must be fully working in game.
  • Use of vanilla NWN or publicly available texture is fine. Just remember that NWN textures must have dimensions in powers of 2 (2, 4, 8, 16, 32, etc.).
  • Teamwork is welcome.
  • Beginners most welcome. Don’t be afraid, just try, you’ll be surprised!
  • “Custom Content” includes many sorts of things: models, scripts, prefabs (areas, items, creatures, conversations, quests, etc.), sounds, portraits, or anything else new for the game.
  • All submissions must be finished, working, and emailed to maiyannah@highlandarrow.com (or a non-Vault link provided) by the first of the following month. Sooner than that is perfectly fine too.

Some things you could include in the download/email that would make packaging everything up easier and faster:

  • Any 2da lines needed.
  • Screenshot from in game for use on the Vault page. Formats: .bmp, .jpg, .png, or .tga
  • Portraits (if needed) of your new goody. Placeables and monsters should include a portrait.
  • Inventory icons (if needed) of your new goody.
  • Any credits you would like listed.
  • If this is your first entry, please tell me what name you would like your work listed under and provide a link to your other NWN content if you want that displayed as well (the link bit is totally optional).
  • Remember, the Challenge is all about fun, sharing, creativity, and surprise!

This thread is for all sorts of discussion about this month’s theme: ideas for things to make, questions/concerns, announcement of what you intend to make, screen-shots of work in progress and/or finished projects.

If you want to discuss the Monthly Custom Content Challenge idea as a whole or wish to submit ideas/themes for future monthly Challenges, please post in its thread here - Custom Content Challenge - Theme Suggestions .

When submitting a new theme, please provide a title and short summary of the theme.

If you have a technical question about some custom content creation, please create a separate thread so that the answers can be found later by anyone, not just people interested in this Challenge.

We’ll try to help!

Have no fear and join the fun!

Just a general boop for this thread, anyone working on anything for this?

I’m not working on anything. This is just a suggestion - more dwarf heads with long beards, especially dwarf ladies with beards.

I’m in desperate need of dwarf heads. More beard types (Amish, thick beards, more hair with beards), hair styles. The don’t even need to be high poly, just comparable to original, though I think good quality would be more widely used in projects as everyone moves to updated assets.

Especially for females. Lots of fantastical hairstyles and not basic practical hair. Buns, plaits, maybe some afro styles (my Gold dwarves are dark skinned modeling the Rift like the kingdom of Axum in Africa at the height of its power and wealth). The Afro styles can be used for regular hair buns.

Seems like I’m not smart enough to learn how to make anything in Blender, don’t even can think about any ideas beyond a head with tusks like some miniatures from some table top game or a fancy tomb placeable.

I will try to rustle up some things… probably dwarf creatures.

The idea is to replicate to an extent the EverQuest Hill Giant, since It resembles the dwarves already, so it can be a humble NPC model.

I have a couple free assets I’ve found that are relevant but they’re being a bit finicky. I’ll see if I can’t tame them.

If RL work gives me some spare time I might come up with some Dwarven deitys banners

With help from mmat, an ale keg! What dwarven local is complete without lots of these?

That keg would go perfect with the chalices from CCC July 2015!

Yeah, or maybe there will be some personalized mugs, with a rune or something:

Too bad, I’m not satisfied with the texture yet. The model is done. It has a separate picture node to make personalization easy. It’s some terracotta texture, but well … it looks a bit dull.

Maybe I should try some wooden stuff or maybe even stone ??

Didn’t you do NWN mugs a decade or so back? Or was that someone else?

TarotRedhand, if I’m thinking of the same ones.

Nope, must be somebody else. I guess there are already a lot of cups, chalices and mugs, some of them quite smilar to mine. Afaik none of them has the personalize feature. You can even pin the holy Esra symbol on it

If you’re going to make personalized mugs, the Church of Hanseath would like to request a beer stein that glows with the holy light of their deity. Hanseath is a minor dwarven deity whose holy symbol is a beer stein, so I’m pretty sure that his clergy carry beer steins around everywhere especially since…

“During the glory days of Myth Drannor, the dwarves who maintained the Shrine of Hanseath held the title of “brewmaster”, and produced sacred beers and ales that possessed different beneficial magical properties.”

Lets see, if I have something for you:

Stone:

Terracotta:

Wood:

And I made one with a whitish porcelain texture (no picture). If you want something with a stein instead of the rune, send me the picture you have in mind. But I guess, it will not be glowing. Or maybe … I got an idea, but I can promise nothing.

edit --------------------------
I can give it a bit of cyclic glowing …

Mmm drinks…
I hated lining up 3 tables and putting bottles on top so I made these…

I have an upgraded version of my old ccc L-tavern bar (comes in left and right sides) with a permanent keg. I will throw a few of these in the pile, probably with stone versions…

The keg placeable is a complete remake of the OC keg, I will toss that in separately.

Great, I like the taps. Well, no dwarven girl (less than 120 years old) to fill up the mugs?

I have a couple more free assets we can probably round into here but one of them has some mesh issues (like in the original mesh even) that I’m trying to fix.
