Custom Content Challenge - February 2022 : Shops and Shopkeepers

The theme for this month’s challenge: Shops and Shopkeepers

Shops and Shopkeepers

All things merchant and market related. Sundry items dangling from the rafters. Display cases, with wares for sale. Piles of baked goods, coils of wieners, smoked hams. Shopkeepers, garbed as one might expect, with some interesting traits. Open market stalls. Small specialty shops such as a fisherman’s shack, a carpenter’s shop, a tinsmith’s shop with benches, holding tools, and half-finished projects. A brick and stone mason, a jeweller, a well digger, an undertaker, a coffin maker, a banker, a bank. A cobbler, with shoes for sale and boots for repair, a butcher, baker, candlestick maker. Moneychangers. Scripts for the exchange of goods, rather than using the GUI. Prefabs of shops and keeps. Shop signs. NPC activities related to shops (shop hours, guards, thieves, lighting effects, etc.). False fronts. Specialty awnings. Guard animals, trained. Back-room dealings. Money laundering. Clothes laundering. Coinage. Paper money. Flirty workers. Surly workers. Undead workers.

This theme was suggested by JFK.

Guidelines:

  • It must be fully working in game.
  • Use of vanilla NWN or publicly available texture is fine. Just remember that NWN textures must have dimensions in powers of 2 (2, 4, 8, 16, 32, etc.).
  • Teamwork is welcome.
  • Beginners most welcome. Don’t be afraid, just try, you’ll be surprised!
  • “Custom Content” includes many sorts of things: models, scripts, prefabs (areas, items, creatures, conversations, quests, etc.), sounds, portraits, or anything else new for the game.
  • All submissions must be finished, working, and emailed to nwvaultccchallenge@gmail.com (or a non-Vault link provided) by March 1st, 2022. Sooner than that is perfectly fine too.

Some things you could include in the download/email that would make packaging everything up easier and faster:

  • Any 2da lines needed.
  • Screenshot from in game for use on the Vault page. Formats: .bmp, .jpg, .png, or .tga
  • Portraits (if needed) of your new goody. Placeables and monsters should include a portrait.
  • Inventory icons (if needed) of your new goody.
  • Any credits you would like listed.
  • If this is your first entry, please tell me what name you would like your work listed under and provide a link to your other NWN content if you want that displayed as well (the link bit is totally optional).
  • Remember, the Challenge is all about fun, sharing, creativity, and surprise!

This thread is for all sorts of discussion about this month’s theme: ideas for things to make, questions/concerns, announcement of what you intend to make, screenshots of work in progress and/or finished projects.

If you want to discuss the Monthly Custom Content Challenge idea as a whole or wish to submit ideas/themes for future monthly Challenges, please post in its thread here - Custom Content Challenge - Theme Suggestions.

When submitting a new theme, please provide a title and short summary of the theme.

If you have a technical question about some custom content creation, please create a separate thread so that the answers can be found later by anyone, not just people interested in this Challenge.

We’ll try to help!

Have no fear and join the fun!

I prepared these actionable objects some time ago, but I have not published yet, this is probably the right time, they can be used for merchant npc’s or whatever you want. Imagine a butcher merchant selling sausages, or a greengrocer promoting his vegetables.

All objects will be a continuation of this category and compatible with it. Some models are torn from the previous ones to make them holdable.

I also plucked several things from the placeables that zwerkules converted from the witcher.

Just 8 days left for one of the most voted for challenges and only one person is going to submit content so far. Is nobody else going to do anything for this?

TR

An Italian proverb says, better few but good. :grinning:
Does it also exist in other places?

A pretty bad bunch of grapes, but I wanted to include it anyway.

If you want slightly better (I think) bunch of grapes, you could always see if you could extract one or more from the grapevine on the right here -

which is part of the Large Public Domain Library of Placeables that I uploaded a few months ago.

Didn’t you receive my package???

If you don’t mention anywhere that you have sent something, I have no reason to look in the CCC account, do I. I have just now got it.

TR

I don’t know… seems if you are expecting people to send things the CCC account you might check it

Thank you Tarot.
What a nice thing is that I also downloaded the package to insert it in our haks next time and I still commented, but I completely forgot about them.

You tell me which one is better.

Speaking of more, that grape vine would be perfect for updating this one.

@Mmat Do you want to surprise us or can we find out what you sent?

I do at the end of the month or earlier if I am told there is supposed to be something in there. Otherwise there is no reason to do so. Should I waste time checking daily/monthly/hourly? Why?

TR

Before complaining that no one has submitted anything might be a reasonable time to “waste” a few seconds, no?

I hardly call that complaining and I did not say that nobody had submitted stuff.

If nothing is supposed to have been sent because nobody bothered to say they were sending anything at this time nor declaring they were sending anything in, it would be unreasonable to expect anything to be in there. This thread exists for such notification and encouragement. It was only after I remarked that we only had one person declaring that they were submitting stuff did anyone else say they were going to send/had sent anything. So I had no reason to check before then.

TR

I’m shy, sorry …

Oh, it’s not a big deal. It’s just a collection of ideas, how shopping can be handled alternatively. A demo module with some sophisticated scripting.

I already published some of these ideas in my module “Bloodfeud” (Shop in Neverwinter).

No sweat. I hope you got the email confirming that I’ve got the archive. Thanks.
