Custom Content Challenge - June 2021 : Dual Themes

Custom Content Challenge - June 2021 : Dual Themes

As there was a tie for the most popular theme this month there are 2 challenges -

Custom Content Challenge - June 2021 : Colonial Times

Content that would help a builder bring NWN into the time period of the colonial era and Revolutionary War. Possible examples might be forts, cannons, muskets, clothing and uniforms, blockhouses, printing presses, and flags.

Custom Content Challenge - June 2021 : Dark Arts

I think it would be nice to do some things for demon/devil cults and necromancer lairs. Things like militated sacrifices, corpses in the middle of the autopsy, gruesome decorations, incomplete undead chained to wall, etc.

This theme was suggested by Shadowing2029

Guidelines:

  • It must be fully working in game.
  • Use of vanilla NWN or publicly available texture is fine. Just remember that NWN textures must have dimensions in powers of 2 (2, 4, 8, 16, 32, etc.).
  • Teamwork is welcome.
  • Beginners most welcome. Don’t be afraid, just try, you’ll be surprised!
  • “Custom Content” includes many sorts of things: models, scripts, prefabs (areas, items, creatures, conversations, quests, etc.), sounds, portraits, or anything else new for the game.
  • All submissions must be finished, working, and emailed to ** nwvaultccchallenge@gmail.com** (or a non-Vault link provided) by June 1st, 2021. Sooner than that is perfectly fine too.

Some things you could include in the download/email that would make packaging everything up easier and faster:

  • 2da lines needed.
  • Screenshot from in game for use on the Vault page. Formats: .bmp, .jpg, .png, or .tga
  • Portraits (if needed) of your new goodie. Placeables and monsters should include a portrait.
  • Inventory icons (if needed) of your new goodie.
  • Any credits you would like listed.

If this is your first entry, please tell me what name you would like your work listed under and provide a link to your other NWN content if you want that displayed as well (the link bit is totally optional).
Remember, the Challenge is all about fun, sharing, creativity, and surprise!

This thread is for all sorts of discussion about this month’s theme: ideas for things to make, questions/concerns, announcement of what you intend to make, screenshots of work in progress and/or finished projects.

When submitting a new theme, please provide a title and short summary of the theme.

If you have a technical question about some custom content creation, please create a separate thread so that the answers can be found later by anyone, not just people interested in this Challenge.

We’ll try to help!

Have no fear and join the fun!

And finally, you can:

Vote for April’s theme.

I might do some more paintings for both themes.

To my mind, Colonial Times offers a broad scope - 15th century onwards across every continent.

While I think the original intent was for the years leading up to the American Revolution of 1776, the way that it is written leaves the way open for so much more, especially if you ignore the mention of printing presses. So then it means that there are a number of questions that need answering -

Probably the most pressing question being who’s colony? Ancient Greek, Carthaginian, Roman? Or more modern - French, German, Spanish, Belgian, British?

Maybe i make something for Colonial Times. I still have this half-finished red marine cannon after all…

I guess I’ll focus on the Dark arts related stuff

  • I have a whole bunch of modified existing custom creature recolors. Unless somebody objects, I will be submitting them (wizard types)
  • I will also dump my matching creature corpses and new corpses (sacrifice types)
  • I will accept requests along the theme lines

I have a bunch of easily customizable easels and various framed painting bases in stretched-canvass-back or reverse-mirror-image back

The texture looks like these, so you only need to replace parts of the texture with an editor that can edit tga files and you can make your own

I will upload the base models and textures with a little tutorial after I complete them.
If you want you can simply paste over the existing artwork part with your own

If you can get me some images of the front and back frames with the picture/canvas as plain mid grey, I can create optional “fancy maps” for them for use with EE. Thanks.

3 days to go (officially finishes midnight(ish) BST). Anyone else got anything to share that they’ve got ready?

These are the absolutely complete entries for now, 8 wizards and 8 hooded cultist.
It’s not just a recolor

  • I added wings and tail use
  • replaced a few parts from the original,
  • made new textures (no more multiple texture files for 1 creature)
also, matching the colors so they don’t look off took awhile

plus I have a few more things to toss in the pot before wrapping up in a few more hours.
