Cursed Magical Items

I’ve played a few modules where there were cursed items and while they can be a bit annoying for the player, it still has me wondering “why not more?” For example, there was this one module I played that has this longsword that was cursed by the dragon that it was used to kill. This wasn’t something you found out until you walked around with it as you’d take damage while outside by just carrying the sword in your pack. Ideas for Fun Scripts (assuming they don’t already exist): - Scripts to prevent players from removing an item after equipped where the item will just reequip itself. - Scripts to direct your henchmen to pick up items because when you live in world where cursed magical items exist, you’re going to want your henchmen to pick up that “Ring of Elemental Resistance” because you’re not entirely convinced it isn’t actually the infamous “Ring of Mockery” that will hit you with CHA-5 and change your name to Human McHumanFace. Or maybe there isn’t anything wrong with the item at all, and it has no curse. However creatures not native to the material plan are drawn to the weapon because they wish to claim it for themselves such that these other plane beings keep showing up out of nowhere randomly to attack the player.

India

India is one of the world’s largest and oldest civilizations, yet there is very little content in NWN that can reflect this. Content could include tilesets of Indian civilization (pagodas, temples, cities, etc.), clothing, heads, weapons, wild animals native to India, and monsters from Indian mythology and folklore.

Inspired by Classic Video Games

Build something from, or inspired by, another video game! Sky’s the limit! Make a suit of clothing and cloak that resembles Mario or Luigi. Perhaps model Cloud’s Buster Sword from FF7. A Hylian shield from the Legend of Zelda. Create the classic Imp monster from Doom, complete with fireball throwing. No room for Halo here (too modern). Dust off your old Earthworm Jim cartridge and make that “Queen Slug-For-A-Butt” model you’ve always been dreaming about. Script out your own Lost Woods maze from Legend of Zelda, or maybe make a new 3d model for ol’ King Hippo from Mike Tyson’s Punch Out. Go Greco-Roman werewolf with Altered Beast.

Make Some Noise, Play Elegant Music

Yes, we need new food for our (pointed) ears… Are you bored, always earing the same wind sounds or that awful battle music for the 827th time ? This is your opportunity to enlarge the Nwn soundscape. Get your audacity, your microphone and recorder ready, or grab some public domain samples and, to the works… Nature, civilisation, magic and weird noises, frightening sounds, voices, great music (medieval, modern, symphonic, etc.) abound… There is a whole sonic world out there, we can capture and adapt to our favorite game. But please, if you use others works, do verify these are not commercial and always provide artists names references and original tune or sound names.

New Better Looking Animals

Not Monsters, but things like Bears, Dogs, Cougars, Lions, Wolves, Jaguars, etc. These are well past when they should be remade or given better skins. Just play any module that uses the original models and you will see spikey joints, angular muzzles, etc. Surely these can be redone to more modern standards. Or maybe some new animals that are not part of the OC, Expansions or DLC Like Crocodiles, Turtles, Gaur, Cape Buffalo, Bison, etc.

Prefab Plus

How about a prefab challenge? Participants make a single prefab area either from an existing tileset - either vanilla or custom. The only caveat would be that any custom tileset used has to be hosted on the Vault. Optionally, someone savvy with 3D modelling could make a mini-tileset to host their area. The prefab area should be all setup with tricks, traps, monsters, etc. so that any Builder wishing to use it can just drop it into their module. Editor’s Note - Areas can include custom content created specifically for the submitted prefab area.

Primitive Civilizations

Bone, stone weapons and armour, crude ironworks. Creatures with tribal tattoos. Huts of all kind (primitive). Tribal ceremonial items.

The Show Must Go On!

Theatre, carnival, freakshows. I was thinking decor placables, masks, throwable rotten tomatoes, ridable people in a horse costume.

The Stone Age

Everything related with the prehistoric times. Rock art, dolmens, menhirs and any kind of megalithic constructions; Stone or bone weapons and tools, primitive fur clothes; Cavemen, Neanderthals or any other kind of hominid. Non dinosaur prehistoric animals, like mammoths, woolly rhinos, Paraceratherium, megatherium, terror birds, sabretooth felines, megaloceros, giant armadillo, megalodon, Gigantopithecus, etc.

New this month is “New Better Looking Animals”.

Bump.

TR

Animals includes giant praying mantises, crayfish, crustaceans, insects…

By definition almost every creature with the word ‘Giant’ as part of its name is a monster.

TR

There’s already a ton of better looking animals out there between CEP, Project Q, and the models Ancarion did.

True - and many of the Ancarion models are in CEP 2.x now.

Thing is, are they as good looking as they could be, given modern system specs?

A better skunk would be nice. The existing one isn’t perfect and the animation of the tail is a bit weird.

I mean, if we do go for animals I do have a hippo model sitting about I was going to use for a Cyprus Dwarf Hippo for the ice age stuff that could be done up as a proper hippo. Plus an absolute ton of fish models (for my exceedingly dumb module idea that involves the silliest fishing quest I can think of) I also had plans for some hadrosaurs though they’re shelved while I sort out my current pachycephalosaur woes

and uh, if someone can animate, I do have a reasonable base model for a kangaroo…

Contributing a nice looking hippo (which could replace the current CEP-Model) would be a heroic deed of epic dimension.

OK guys let’s keep the suggestions until we actually have a winner. Even in this era of CCC polls in the forums, I have seen the winner turn out to be not the front runner for the rest of the month. So patience guys. That’s all.

And the winner is New Better Looking Animals
