Custom Content Challenge - November 2021 : Statues

The theme for this month’s challenge: Statues

There is a pretty limited offering of statue placeables, busts, and so on. Let’s make some more. Non-modellers could script some devious traps that animate the statues or deliver harsh punishment to those unfortunate enough to disturb the statues.

This theme was suggested by pliny_the_elder.

Guidelines:

  • It must be fully working in game.
  • Use of vanilla NWN or publicly available texture is fine. Just remember that NWN textures must have dimensions in powers of 2 (2, 4, 8, 16, 32, etc.).
  • Teamwork is welcome.
  • Beginners most welcome. Don’t be afraid, just try, you’ll be surprised!
  • “Custom Content” includes many sorts of things: models, scripts, prefabs (areas, items, creatures, conversations, quests, etc.), sounds, portraits, or anything else new for the game.
  • All submissions must be finished, working, and emailed to nwvaultccchallenge@gmail.com (or a non-Vault link provided) by December 1st, 2021. Sooner than that is perfectly fine too.

Some things you could include in the download/email that would make packaging everything up easier and faster:

  • Any 2da lines needed.
  • Screenshot from in game for use on the Vault page. Formats: .bmp, .jpg, .png, or .tga
  • Portraits (if needed) of your new goody. Placeables and monsters should include a portrait.
  • Inventory icons (if needed) of your new goody.
  • Any credits you would like listed.
  • If this is your first entry, please tell me what name you would like your work listed under and provide a link to your other NWN content if you want that displayed as well (the link bit is totally optional).
  • Remember, the Challenge is all about fun, sharing, creativity, and surprise!

This thread is for all sorts of discussion about this month’s theme: ideas for things to make, questions/concerns, announcement of what you intend to make, screenshots of work in progress and/or finished projects.

If you want to discuss the Monthly Custom Content Challenge idea as a whole or wish to submit ideas/themes for future monthly Challenges, please post in its thread here - Custom Content Challenge - Theme Suggestions.

When submitting a new theme, please provide a title and short summary of the theme.

If you have a technical question about some custom content creation, please create a separate thread so that the answers can be found later by anyone, not just people interested in this Challenge.

We’ll try to help!

Have no fear and join the fun!

And finally, you can:

I would suggest that the “and so on” opens the way for sculptures of all sorts and not just figurative likenesses. It also opens it up for broken parts of statues such as a mysterious single large foot broken off at the ankle or a statues head or a caryatid column. In other words if it doesn’t move when first encountered and it looks like art or a piece of what once was art (in 3D) that it probably fits the theme.

The other thing to remember is that whatever you make it doesn’t have to be made of stone. Wood and metal are common materials used too.

For anyone interested in knowing the difference between a statue and a sculpture I came across a website new to me - https://www.differencebetween.com that has an article on -

Difference Between Statue and Sculpture

Or, just look up the etymology:

The following news story raises a couple of interesting question -

English town mourning Derek the Goose to erect statue in her honour (not a typo, Derek was female)

How hard is it to convert a creature into a placeable and how do you go about posing such a placeable (preferably in Blender).

Two thirds of the month gone and two weeks without an answer to my question in my previous post. Is nobody going to make anything for this? Currently I am struggling to get a model to use enough of it’s texture.

If nobody else even tries to make something for this challenge, I have to start thinking about is it worth continuing the challenges as this will then be 2 challenges in a row that this has happened.

Perhaps if you cross-posted on the Beamdog Forums, Discord, Facebook et al., you might get more interest? Unfortunately our community has become fragmented across multiple sites.

I did have an ongoing thread on the BD forums and when they, hopefully, come back will do so again. As far as I know, it only resulted in votes for the following month’s challenge and not any submissions. The only Facebook groups that I am aware of are mainly focused on PWs. I find Discord nigh on unusable as my ip tends to shift around a lot, meaning I have to mess around with going through a security process too often, just to log in. So I tend not to use it.

Wasn’t really planning to submit anything this month, but we cant have a blank CCC month!

I can dump a bunch of mirrored female statues, A few things I made from @Proleric’s Enigma Island deities and a few Faerunian Pantheon deities I am making for a collection. They are pretty generic and mostly old practice placeables and I don’t have time to check on them again, but they all work fine in my game…

On the right is Corellon, Sune, Torm and Ilmater. The dark one in the middle is Asmodeus

FWIW, I could have had use for a statue of Poseidon (Big Muscly guy with a beard holding a trident) - Ancient Greek God of the sea, horses and earthquakes. Incidentally the Patron God of fictional Atlantis.

TR

Wow! You captured them way better than I ever could!

Challenge accepted. I will find a beard and a giant fork and freeze this guy in a cool pose. That could work… (He is completely cylinder parts-based for those old school purists and the head is just an edited and retextured bald half orc head)

I ditched the ogre base and remade this one from a Half-orc base.

Beard - Check (Shemsu-Heru’s warcraft dwarf head)
Pose - Check

now to:

  • find a fork
  • lock pose
  • make rock-layered monochrome texture

… And now he is a statue…

No trident yet and I’m still not happy with it.
Hmmm… maybe I will make him a toga (things like these keep me from finishing things  )

Anybody have a trident weapon file on hand they want to share? just the top part would be fine.

My submission is going to be a little late… again

UPDATE EDIT: There’s some odd clipping but the toga looks a lot better

FINAL EDIT: Final submission. I took out some, added some. heavily edited all
