Custom Content Challenge - November 2022 : Non-Human Skeletons and Cadavers!/Bone Yard

The theme for this month’s challenge: “Non-Human Skeletons and Cadavers!/Bone Yard”

Non-Human Skeletons and Cadavers!/Bone Yard

Sometimes you need some undead creatures or simply some nifty skeletons/corpses but you are limited to (mostly) human placeables! We need more variety! New skeletons based off of the various races out there. Dynamic Skeletons of said races. Furniture made of bone. Armor and Weapons made of bone. Bone placeables or tiles for sets.

This theme was suggested by Havelock/acidchalk.

Guidelines:

  • It must be fully working in game.
  • Use of vanilla NWN or publicly available texture is fine. Just remember that NWN textures must have dimensions in powers of 2 (2, 4, 8, 16, 32, etc.).
  • Teamwork is welcome.
  • Beginners most welcome. Don’t be afraid, just try, you’ll be surprised!
  • “Custom Content” includes many sorts of things: models, scripts, prefabs (areas, items, creatures, conversations, quests, etc.), sounds, portraits, or anything else new for the game.
  • All submissions must be finished, working, and emailed to nwvaultccchallenge@gmail.com (or a non-Vault link provided) by July 1st, 2022. Sooner than that is perfectly fine too.

Some things you could include in the download/email that would make packaging everything up easier and faster:

  • Any 2da lines needed.
  • Screenshot from in game for use on the Vault page. Formats: .bmp, .jpg, .png, or .tga
  • Portraits (if needed) of your new goody. Placeables and monsters should include a portrait.
  • Inventory icons (if needed) of your new goody.
  • Any credits you would like listed.
  • If this is your first entry, please tell me what name you would like your work listed under and provide a link to your other NWN content if you want that displayed as well (the link bit is totally optional).
  • Remember, the Challenge is all about fun, sharing, creativity, and surprise!

This thread is for all sorts of discussion about this month’s theme: ideas for things to make, questions/concerns, announcement of what you intend to make, screen-shots of work in progress and/or finished projects.

If you want to discuss the Monthly Custom Content Challenge idea as a whole or wish to submit ideas/themes for future monthly Challenges, please post in its thread here -

Custom Content Challenge - Theme Suggestions.

When submitting a new theme, please provide a title and short summary of the theme.

If you have a technical question about some custom content creation, please create a separate thread so that the answers can be found later by anyone, not just people interested in this Challenge.

We’ll try to help!

Have no fear and join the fun!

So what about doing some fossils (maybe even animated) for this challenge? A platter for the end of a feast littered with the bones of the meal? A drum where the drumsticks are bones? A vfx of bone jewellery or a bone sticking out of the corner of a characters mouth akin to a straw? Simple scripts to enlarge or shrink the bones? A prefab of a bine littered landscape?

TR

Not even a bone through the nose head-aligned vfx? Anyone doing anything for this?

I have an idea for a skeletal cat, but I don’t know whether I’ll have the time

One week of the challenge left.

I’m having trouble with the animations. I might end up submitting a statue :-(. I may be a couple of days late as well.

As long as we get something, that’s OK. You could submit it laying down as a plain simple skeleton (just dead not undead), you know.

I managed to line them up well enough by deleting some Vertebrae. Just have to align the tail and it should be good (enough) to go. Main issue really is that the cat animations don’t have enough bones to make it look smooth:

@Symmetric Maybe use the Witcher 1 cat model as a base? Well, it’d be like the cow-conversion (from Zwerkules - IIRC) with a few basic moves and not the full NWN1-cat-set. Just a thought.

Apart from the canine creatures, animals from the Witcher 1 are only for ambience. They have nice idle animations, but that and walking and running is all they can do. So you have to make sure they can’t be attacked and just use them like placeables that can run around

Managed to finish it. I had to fuse the vertebrate where the pelvis and chest meshes meet, in order to avoid having a gap there in certain animations. Basically move them so they overlap.

And it’s up here.
