Custom Content Challenge - September 2022 : Faerûn

The theme for this month’s challenge: “Faerûn”

Faerûn

This challenge is about generating content unique to the setting of Faerûn. For example, it could include custom monsters, magic items, and NPC blueprints from the Faerûn guide books; tile groups of distinctive Faerûnian landmarks; in-game lore books, maps, and manuals; custom portraits and soundsets; an exterior Menzoberranzan tileset; attire and placeable banners of good and evil political groups; magic sigils; placeables for Faerûnian deity shrines, and re-creations of content from the Faerûn-based infinity engine or goldbox games.

This theme was suggested by rjshae.

Guidelines:

  • It must be fully working in game.
  • Use of vanilla NWN or publicly available texture is fine. Just remember that NWN textures must have dimensions in powers of 2 (2, 4, 8, 16, 32, etc.).
  • Teamwork is welcome.
  • Beginners most welcome. Don’t be afraid, just try, you’ll be surprised!
  • “Custom Content” includes many sorts of things: models, scripts, prefabs (areas, items, creatures, conversations, quests, etc.), sounds, portraits, or anything else new for the game.
  • All submissions must be finished, working, and emailed to nwvaultccchallenge@gmail.com (or a non-Vault link provided) by July 1st, 2022. Sooner than that is perfectly fine too.

Some things you could include in the download/email that would make packaging everything up easier and faster:

  • Any 2da lines needed.
  • Screenshot from in game for use on the Vault page. Formats: .bmp, .jpg, .png, or .tga
  • Portraits (if needed) of your new goody. Placeables and monsters should include a portrait.
  • Inventory icons (if needed) of your new goody.
  • Any credits you would like listed.
  • If this is your first entry, please tell me what name you would like your work listed under and provide a link to your other NWN content if you want that displayed as well (the link bit is totally optional).
  • Remember, the Challenge is all about fun, sharing, creativity, and surprise!

This thread is for all sorts of discussion about this month’s theme: ideas for things to make, questions/concerns, announcement of what you intend to make, screen-shots of work in progress and/or finished projects.

If you want to discuss the Monthly Custom Content Challenge idea as a whole or wish to submit ideas/themes for future monthly Challenges, please post in its thread here - Custom Content Challenge - Theme Suggestions.

When submitting a new theme, please provide a title and short summary of the theme.

If you have a technical question about some custom content creation, please create a separate thread so that the answers can be found later by anyone, not just people interested in this Challenge.

We’ll try to help!

Have no fear and join the fun!

I have a prefab for this month’s CCC.

FP!

Looks very familiar and seems to be the best possible approach with NWN.

Just under a third of the way through the month. Anybody else doing something for this?

I have a spare Amnish Guard creature I recreated from a blurry BG2 screenshot…
For the Glory of Amn!

Its 5% bigger than a normal human

Looks like a Spanish Conquistidor

Looking great, everyone. Unfortunately I won’t have the time to submit something for this one.

Btw., if I remember correctly Amn is modeled after Medieval/Renaissance Spain.

Yup, Exactly what they look like in the Baldur’s Gate 2 game.
Had to edit a helmet to look like a Morion Helmet…

Definitely time to get my eyes tested again. At first I thought you said a Moron Helmet… :see_no_evil:

If you are creating anything for this, just a reminder - 2 weeks left.

i’m working on a Thing, part of my eternal ‘let’s try and get all D&D critters into NWN’ plans, but also very tied to Faerun itself. The Grippli

mind at the moment its a trogdolyte with a frog head and feet, plus sahagin neck and pelvis, but I’ll edit up a few variants one the skins all fixed up

cool

here come dat boi (also MAN, grippili are tiny by Faerun standards. this is technically oversized a bit but, look how small they are even at this size)

(also ingame shot…)

Two of them are obvious frogs. I tried to make a nice brown and splotchy one but uh, that just ended up looking like some strange arcane runelord. The black and purple is a bad attempt at the Purple Flourescent Toad, which is not a frog

Full credits will be when I unleash the readme

  • I like this plan.
All these ribbiting  imagery reminded me I had enough parts to assemble a proper faerunian aarakocra, I will try to toss in a couple more creature models…

Looking swank, though my particulars on the Aarakocra immediately go ‘they gotta have talon hands’

which is exactly why i haven’t done anything with them becaues I do not have a source for feathered arms and talon hands

I think I can rework those claw feet into talon hands and give them a feathery skin texture. Right now those are just humans with bird parts I scavenged from some griffins and turned into armor parts. Also the actual Aaracokra will be a head shorter than a human.

Seemingly the people like the picture of Baldurs gate. So I made a loadscreen.

It’s not too good, since the aspect ratio of 4:3 doesn’t fit well into the loadscrenn. But you won’t find a better one
