GR2 Files - Quick Question

Simply what are they. My suspicion is that they contain animation information for placeables held in *.mdb files. But I don’t know for sure.

Thanks.

They are the game’s animation files yes. Not just placeables, everything animated at the model level.

Thanks. Another question if you don’t mind. What happens if I delete a gr2 file associated with an mdb model? Does it break the model or does the model just lose its animations or something else?

Why am I asking? I have just started converting some NwN 2 models to NwN EE and don’t need the animations. If removing the gr2 files breaks the models I simply don’t convert the models concerned.

Thanks.

If you are converting the models to NWN EE then you shouldn’t need the GR2 files. They contain nothing more than animation data so unless NWN EE is using NWN2’s animation (pretty sure it isn’t) you won’t need them.

Easy enough to test, rename the .gr2 file, even changing a single letter is enough, if your model loads fine and animates correctly in NWN EE then you can go ahead and delete it. I haven’t messed with NWN EE so I don’t know what animation setup its using, the original NWN or a new/updated setup.

Thanks. AFAIK EE uses the same animation as 1.69/Diamond.

Both the skeleton and the animations are in GR2 format.
