Can anyone suggest an easy-to-use henchman system, One that is preferably easy to use, and intuitive. God I hope it doesn’t involve a bunch of coding!
I’m thinking I need three henchman, for plot reasons. So if anybody can help, please give a mighty shout out!
Is it ok if they are static level? Or do you want them to level up throughout the module?
Oh, I was thinking that they would level up throughout the module. Undoubtedly more coding.
But I’m open to anything.
Actually that’s easy to do with the LevelUpHenchman() function.
The Lexicon has two tutorials on henchman scripts. The one by Huntsman links to a package on the Vault.
IIRC I used one or both of those tutorials as a starting point, but made so many improvements over the years that I can’t remember whether they were OK out of the box.
There is as simple system in Bloodfeud 2, which uses mostly standard functions requires a minimum of scripting. Just the basic character and the dialogue. Since the henchies won’t accompany the PC all the time it’s good enough for me.
Leveling up a henchie within the module could be pest. As a general rule, start with a level 1 character (leave it at level 1 until the hench(wo)man mets the PC) and do not customize him/her. Just give it a proper equipment.
Not really. You just need to make sure your hench has a proper 1st level, then make sure to call levelup on the henchmen at the right time. There are probably 1 or 2 kits on the vault with premade ones you could alter.
Do you use haks? You could use the leveling packages from Good vs Evil 3 which include packages for spell schools and a variety of weapons. There is a tutorial on making your own packages, but you likely don’t need to go that far.
Each package tends to have fighters level in particular weapon, but if you just need meat shields it may not matter to you. Default fighter for instance specializes in the long sword.
It’s not as hard as it seems, you just need to know what to do. If you list out your henchmen requirements I might be able to guide you in the right direction.
Who are they?
What class(es)
Any specializations like weapons or spell schools (easy)?
