Conceptually, I am all for making and requiring wands to be equipped in either the shield or primary weapon slot. It’s actually a trivial task to force PCs to do so. The hard part is getting NPCs (“creatures” and henchment) to do so. If BD can do that without breaking backwards compatibility then I am in full support!

How is hold-able wands different from some weapon that has an OnCast ability?
This feels like a easy feature for modders to make themselves?

Sanctum of the Archmage has had equippable wands and rods for a dozen years. Activating them is a straightforward baseitems.2da edit. (The functionality is already in the game, but from what I remember it was disabled in the 2da because some players disliked it.) I’m not certain what additional animations might be desired, but I think it looks OK (more or less the same as any as any off-hand weapon). It could use a little fixing up, since the double-equip function on the hotbar doesn’t work for them.

I know that it should be this way per PnP however I don’t see point for this in CRPG.
All this achieves is just lot of item swapping for which has player plenty of time to do anyway since after using wand he cannot attack/cast/activate and again for full round.
On top of that it will be possible to use wands/rods as weapon which is weird too.
Idk I just don’t see benefits or even compromises if this should be some kind of equipment limitation option. It will only be annoying to reserve one extra quickslot to equip the wand before usage.

Shadooow: That pretty much describes the reason I remember for why the functionality was disabled. YMMV, but I’ve personally never agreed with it, which is why I restored it in my mods.
I think you could maybe hook the wands into a custom script that has them draw the wand and fire it via animation… but otherwise leave it unequipped… could be cool… !
