Do you remember when Ravenloft was just an adventure? I sure do!
Or, if you’ve read “Vampire of the Mists,” by Christie Golden, you’ll recall a tale that starts in Forgotten Realms and lands in Ravenloft.
If you’re unfamiliar with all of this, that’s OK. I think you can still enjoy the heck out of this and get involved, no matter what the level of familiarity is.
The original Ravenloft adventure, the “i6 module,” was just an adventure to begin with. It was so wildly successful that it inspired several other books, including Realm of Terror and Forbidden Lore. Now that there were all these excellent Ravenloft products out due to the success of the original adventure, they went back and rewrote the original i6 module for 2nd Edition AD&D. And they decided to name it House of Strahd.
There are some exciting changes from the i6 module to House of Strahd, namely they made Strahd a lot stronger! But, I’ve no intention of spoilering those specifics… because the Knights of Noromath module will “host” the House of Strahd module.
Even though this release is still a few months away, I wanted to invite anyone who might be interested in working on a “very early” Barovia.
In terms of present status the project is pretty far along. At the time of this writing, 99% of the scripts are already done and tested. Most of the outdoor areas are connected and laid out and have music and variables. I plan to take my time and build Castle Ravenloft using modern tilesets.
I’ll take help in the form of:
- Ravenloft research (for Barovian year 472-473)
- Area builders (place the placeable game)
- 3D modeling/rigging/anims etc
When we’re done? We will have a blast taking PCs to Barovia. There, they will meet the devil Strahd, break into his house, smash his furniture, and try to defeat him.
For Players
If you are a PLAYER and you want to eventually storm Strahd’s castle, all you have to do is play up to level 6 on Knights of Noromath and you’ll be eligible to start the adventure. Or you might get sucked into the adventure. The details are still misty. Here’s a link for you, intrepid player: Knights Of Noromath AD&D
For Developers
If you are a DEVELOPER and you want to lend your talents to a classic, 2nd Edition AD&D reboot of one of D&D’s most popular adventures of all time, just shoot me a direct message. I’ll send you an invite to our little developer discord for House of Strahd where we discuss and decide upon things pertinent to this adventure. One thing we decided already was no spirit boards. They kinda creep us out.
