Under terrain I use the trees brush along the map edge. It does not paint a ‘wall’ of trees but rather just slightly changes the tile graphic?! No impenetrable wall.
Thanks,

If I’ve understood correctly, you may need to add a row / column of trees along the edge in question.
Sometimes, even when you’ve painted trees-to-grass tiles along the edge, it still looks wrong from some angles, and will benefit from the extra tree tiles.
In the toolset, Edit > Resize Area to add a row or column along the edge in question.
You may need to rotate by 180 degrees before and after to affect the right edge.
Fill the new row / column with trees.
P.S. if you mean that you can’t see trees continuing into the distance, beyond the painted tiles, it may be that you’re using a custom tileset which is lacking edge tiles.
If this doesn’t help, post a screenshot and let us know which tileset has the problem.
I am using the Gigaschatten mod to start my new campaign.
It can depend on the level of the edge tile. If it is all the same level it should paint trees, but if it is elevated or lowered it may not.
