Warning: Modding is addictive.

Have fun!

Tell me about it. I have been modding my games since knights of old republic came out.
I spent most of my time modding oblivion and dragon age origins.

And by the way mods that would you recommend playing.
I know of gladiatrix and demonheart, searching for some new ones.
I do not particularly like neverwinter nights but it has some good modules compared to nwn 2.
But nwn 2 at least had party integrated in the main game.
Still playing baldurs gate to this day.

Putting everything in the override is messy and will eventually crash the game if you donā€™t know what you are doing.
Imagine putting files into the override that are ten years old and include 2da files of that time that cause no end of trouble because they override newer versions.
This makes up for more than half of the problems people have with game crashes.
Not that I ever help anybody who has problems with game crashes. Iā€™m only guesssing here
Iā€™m a disrespectful mencace who never helps anybody.

Using opportunity to plug some modules, then.

Also, some ongoing or smaller projects for which I suspect more feedback would be appreciated by the authors (although I confess I havenā€™t gotten around to reviewing them all yet either x_x):

I presume that when it says cep 1 , it only works with cep 1 and not with cep 2.65 for example ?
Also are there any good drow or elven related mods ?
I am sick of playing humans.

Iā€™ll call it quits here, or Iā€™ll get sucked into an infinite vortex. Iā€™d recommend checking out the lists. Ironically, weā€™ve probably got enough module-recommendation-lists at this point that we might need a recommendation list for which recommendation lists to look at first.

Hey mate, sorry for the inconvenience, but I wanted to ask you something since you seem very knowledgeable on this subject.

I am using CEP3 on NWNEE and I opened the appearance.2da file and the cep3_portraits.hak file using nwhak.exe

I extracted appearance.2da and looked for the line where the creature I want to change portrait is, changing the portrait name to the new one, example:
po_pegasus
has become:
po_wolf2_1

In the meantime I have created 5 .tga files with the new images of the creature, example:
po_wolf2_1_h.tga
po_wolf2_1_l.tga
po_wolf2_1_m.tga
etc
(Small note:
The images I created are in 1024 Ɨ 2048 resolution, all of them, even the large, medium, small, etc.
I did it because it can be done like this with custom portraits of personal characters created by us and playable in OC)

Then I took nwhak again and used Resource>Add and added the 5 .tga files, saved the hak file, overwriting the original CEP3 file, i.e. cep3_portraits.hak
Finally I used nwhak to open the cep3_2das.hak file, which contained the appearance.2da file extracted earlier.
I did Resource>Add again and selected the new modified appearance.2da by myself as described above, I then saved this hak file with the same name that CEP3 used, i.e. cep3_portraits.hak

Now, after all this process, I note with enormous regret that in the module the creature actually signals that its new portrait is po_wolf2_1_, but it does not show it to me in the box on the left.
Also if I use nwhak to open the new cep3_portraits file, when I scroll through the list of portraits and find my 5 portraits, I double click to open them and nwhak crashes without me seeing them.

I remind you that I created the images using the smartphone, I then sent them to the PC, I opened them with Paint and saved with it.
Then I opened them with GIMP (program that allows you to save images in tga format) and I saved them in tga in fact. And itā€™s the exact same process Iā€™ve always used to create my portraits for the playable characters I created for OC. A curiosity I noticed is that those images that I use as portraits for playable characters in OC, must be flipped for the game to show me straight when I create the character, basically the images created by me are upside down, otherwise when I create a character and I choose the portraits, those images are the other way around.

So why doesnā€™t this procedure work on custom creatures added by CEP3?
And why using nwhak I canā€™t open the .tga images that I created myself?
How should I do and what am I doing wrong?
Thank you.

I solved the problem by simply overwriting 5 CEP3 portraits with mine, using the same name as the CEP3 portraits I overwrote.
Probably somewhere in the CEP3 files it must be written that the portraits are example 3412, so I could not add 5 portraits and make them 3417 without modifying the file that reports the number of how many portraits are present in the CEP3 files.
What nonsense this thing though, the more creatures I create, the more portraits I will have to overwrite if I donā€™t understand which file takes into account how many portraits exist in CEP3
