The following is a supernatural ability of Level 5 if we were to compare it to spell level and can be unlocked at level 10. Is from the vestige Dantalion of the Pact Magic system from the Tome of Magic.
Read Thoughts: At will as a full-round action, you can attempt to read the surface thoughts of any creature you can see, as long as it is within 5 feet per effective binder level you possess. If the target makes a successful Will save, you cannot read its thoughts for 1 minute.
Creatures of animal intelligence (Int 1 or 2) have simple, instinctual thoughts that you can pick up. If you attempt to read the thoughts of a creature with an Intelligence score 10 points higher than your own, you automatically fail and are stunned for 1 round. You can read a creature’s thoughts for as long as you concentrate.
Effective binder level is like the caster level, in this case refers to level of the Binder Class.
I was thinking in giving the caster damage reduction 30/adamantine that absorbs 10 points of melee damage per two effective binder levels if the target fails the save, like premonition but with less power. And if the caster gets away to far from the target, the effect ends.

If you give the DR to the caster, he will gain the benefit of it against every opponent he’s currently fighting, not just the affected target.
Another problem is that this would affect only physical damage dealers, enemy casters or enemies that rely on elemental damage would be completely unaffected.
I would implement as a penalty for the affected target instead, could be very strong AB, AC and concentration penalties (since you presume you will know where the target will attempt to strike the blow, you’re gonna dodge it, most likely, likewise, you will know where he will attempt to dodge, so you are much more likely to land a blow and interrupt their spells).

It sounds good to me, this is how i changed the ability with your feedback:
Read Thoughts: At will, you can attempt to read the surface thoughts of an hostile creature that is within 60 feet from you. If the target makes a successful Will save, you cannot read its thoughts for 1 minute. Creatures of intelligence lesser than 2 automatically fail this save. If you attempt to read the thoughts of a creature with an Intelligence score 10 points higher than your own, you automatically fail and are stunned for 1 round. If you successfully read the thoughts of the creature, it takes a -4 penalty on Concentration and Hide skill checks and a -4 penalty to AC and attack rolls. The effect ends immediately if you designate another creature, if either you or the subject dies or if it moves beyond 60 feet from you.
