I’ve been playing the Motb SoZ Makeover and enjoying it so far, but now I’ve hit a snag. I’m in the third of Ammon Jerro’s shadow areas, the one where you get Casavir and Neeshka back. Except that when I solve Mephasm’s riddles and leave the Haven, they’re just standing outside with their default conversations and don’t join. What’s wrong? Was there something else I was supposed to do?
It has been a long while and I don’t quite recall if you are supposed to ask them to join you or they are supposed to walk up to the main PC. Do you have your main PC selected?
Yes, I do. Are they supposed to appear outside the Haven once you ask Mephasm to teleport you out, or are they meant to not appear until you return to the Shadow Theater? Your walkthrough says they can be asked to join, but for me they just have their default conversations instead of the new ones they’re supposed to have. And is Safiya being able to summon any of the OC companions to join the party supposed to be part of the makeover, too?
I do not recall anything about summoning the companions. The way I did it was usually through conversations. Do you have other mods installed that have to do with the companions in your override folder? If so then there may be conversations in your override that are overriding mine.
If you installed the makeover correctly then in the MotB campaign folder there should be conversation files mo_nx1_casavir.DLG and mo_nx1_neeshka.DLG which have the options to join. If you have conversations with those same names in your override folder then you will have to remove them from your override folder.
Also, according to the walkthrough I did modify the conversations of Safiya, Kaelyn, Okku, and Gann in order to prevent combat interruptions from preventing special feats. I did not modify Safiya’s conversation to allow summoning the OC companions though. So I suspect that you have something else in your override folder that you have installed that modified the conversations that the makeover modifies. You should remove anything having to do with the MotB companions from your override folder.
Yeah, I did some testing and found some files that were conflicting with the makeover. Now it works, but I was surprised by Cas and Neeshka getting together. I thought there was an ending added for Cas and the female PC if they’re involved, but this makes me not want to get him and Neeshka back if those two being together is how the makeover goes.
No, there is no ending in the Makeover for any of the OC companions to end up with the main PC. That would be in conflict with too much in MotB. Casavir and Neeshka bonded during their shared captivity. Your main PC can talk with Casavir all about it.
I realized that was from the romance pack, which I also have installed. And it seems to me that Cas wouldn’t have tossed the PC aside so quickly. And players hoping for a nice reunion between them don’t deserve to be figuratively slapped in the face imo. I don’t see how them remaining faithful to each other would conflict with MotB since realistically she wouldn’t get over him that fast, either. Obsidian made a mistake in not continuing the romance arcs from the OC imo. The romance pack fixes that oversight.
Wow, you can get Neeshka back in MotB ? I’d rather have chests and doors blow up in my face than include her in the party.
I’m afraid that ship has sailed. At the time that SoZ was released most of the gripes on the forums about MotB had to do with the Spirit Eater mechanic, lack of the party editor, lawful good characters trading in souls, and the falling rocks ending of the OC and Ammon Jerro’s conversation in MotB. My focus was on addressing those gripes while allowing people to play the way they wanted to rather than the way that Bioware wanted you to. I was aware of the romance pack for the OC but not in direct contact with anyone working on it. Romances were not in scope for either the OC Makeover or the MotB Makeover. I believe that the romance packs are heavily dependent on modifications in the companion conversations. If you are comfortable with the toolset you may be able to merge my Casavir conversation options into the romance pack conversation.
The MotB Makeover allows many of the OC companions to return but they are not nearly as chatty as they were in the OC, which significantly reduces Neeshka’s charm.
So you’re saying mods can never be adjusted later on down the line? Think of the situation from the female PC’s POV. She’s halfway across the world from the man she loves and doesn’t even know whether he’s alive or dead. Even in the unmodded game, you can refuse Gann’s advances and stay faithful to Cas. So while she’s uncertain of his fate, she still has hope. Then along comes a chance to see him again after finding out he’s alive, only in your mod he’s ditched her for Neeshka, who’s likely a close friend of hers depending on how the player treated her. Did you ever think about how that would come across? As I said above, it’s like a slap in the face, especially with how you had him dismiss his entire relationship with the PC in a single line. What woman wouldn’t be hurt and angry after that?
Of course mods can be changed. But it has been over 10 years and I’m no longer taking requests.
That would probably involve some sort of save mechanism for a romance in the OC which the makers didn’t intend to carry on in the sequel so it’s probably not possible without going way into the OC.
Maybe the woman PC should be happy he’s alive, is happy ( with Neeshka is a bit of a stretch in my opinion ) and she got to see him again. After all he probably thought she was dead and didn’t fancy living in celibacy and mourning for the rest of his life while making a shrine of her to pray at everyday.
It’s time to move on, the female PC is now dealing with gods and way beyond his conflicted/ traumatised paladin stuff. She needs to find herself some serious hot celestial arse go immortal and whizz about the heavens. Leave him to listen to Neeshka’s whingeing and going on about coin.
It may be possible for you to get the best of both worlds by removing the romance pack from your override, talk to Casavir to have him join your party, and then put the romance pack back in your override folder so that any future conversations with Casavir will use their options rather than mine. It could work.
Except that it likely hasn’t been that long since the end of the OC, and MotB doesn’t seem to cover a large region meaning short travel times between locations (as the in-game map hints), so the entire expansion probably only happened over a few weeks at most. That’s not enough time to get over one love and start another imo.
Kaldor: I tried something like that, but his convos from your mod still took precedence over the ones from the romance pack. Also, the ending slides of the romance pack in MotB say the PC rescued Casavir from imprisonment in Luskan (following the hints about him in SoZ) so that doesn’t really line up with him being found in Rashamen anyway.
