Tried a number of things including restarting my PC and nothing worked. Switched off the machine for a time. An hour and a half later and it finally finished the download.

Fast for me this morning.
Spoke too soon.
Toolset was OK, but game failed “This app can’t run on your PC”.
Solved by connecting to Beamdog Client again, which did an update unbidden.
Serve me right for being smug.
