Pandemic Times

Update: they just closed my ward. We discharged all patients in one day. I don’t know what’s next for us, but it’s possible we’ll work as infectious disease physicians, and treat that damn virus for the next couple of months despite being psychiatrists… Shit’s getting real.

Things have changed drastically in the last 3 days.
It started a few weeks ago with the toilet paper scramble which was bizarre to me having lived abroad for a loooong time and being a bidet/ lota/ water sprayer user. Maybe this is a good time to convert to such use for people who have a toilet paper shortage. Buy a flower watering pot and try it or go all fancy and install a bidet.
Now over the weekend everything shut down including schools, daycares and libraries etc. The situation in Italy is what made it all deadly serious for most of us.
Stay safe everyone and may God help us all.

Heh, I was responding to a post by a gamer on FB and ended up telling two more users about our vault and forums. Fight the virus, stay home and game!

I think it was a combination of diarrhea being a potential symptom and the CDC telling us we need to get ready for COVID-19. Boom! Everybody gets survivor-prepped for maximum diarrhea potential. :roll_of_toilet_paper: :roll_of_toilet_paper: :roll_of_toilet_paper: :roll_of_toilet_paper: :roll_of_toilet_paper: :roll_of_toilet_paper: :roll_of_toilet_paper: :roll_of_toilet_paper: :roll_of_toilet_paper: :roll_of_toilet_paper: :roll_of_toilet_paper: :roll_of_toilet_paper: :roll_of_toilet_paper: :roll_of_toilet_paper: :roll_of_toilet_paper: :roll_of_toilet_paper: :roll_of_toilet_paper: :roll_of_toilet_paper: :roll_of_toilet_paper: :roll_of_toilet_paper: :roll_of_toilet_paper:

The toilet paper terrors strike again. I’ve had some in the past too.

You laugh about it now, but that’s going to be the future and soon after that, there won’t even be a bus driver anymore.

I take this seriously, I am in quarantine because of a colleague of the laboratory (chemistry). What do you want? That I put myself in fetus position in my closet and cry?

I think Clangeddin wasn’t talking about laughing about the virus, but about bus drivers working from home. Busses without drivers already exist, but they are so damn slow that unless you are pretty old you might get where you want to be faster if you walk.

Yes. :japanese_ogre:

Jokes aside, I was referring to the meme of the bus driver as Zwerkules pointed out.

As an italian, tomorrow I’ll be able to boast on how we surpassed China’s death numbers, grabbing the gold medal despite a 1 month headstart of the chinese, now that is gonna put ME in fetus position in my closet and cry.

One thing this epidemy makes me think about is how LUCKY we are to live in a era with tecnology and the internet.

Imagine if we had no online banking, no online shopping, no smart working, no online classrooms, ecc… we’d have to go out there and face the virus at the peak of the virulence.

Nerds have saved the world, I tell you.

And most of all, no videogames and no online porn…
shudders at the thought
We might have to join some crazy cult of the end times, just to kill the time! (and ourselves)

Take care of yourself @Clangeddin you have all my support (I’m serious It’s a shame for porn … uh, I mean games …). If I hurt you in one way or another, I am sincerely sorry, that was not my intention at all.

And if you need to talk about it, you will have my ear but I believe that you will have the attention of everyone here as well.

Don’t worry about it, you didn’t hurt anyone.
Take care of yourselves as well, this will hit everyone very soon, not just us italians.

I wish I could do anything, the only thing I can give right now is advice: this is not a flu, this is damn serious, stay at home, lock yourselves up as much as possible, the “Herd Immunity” theory without a vaccine (and without a 95% coverage) is utter nonsense that would kill millions.
Social distancing is the only solution to this right now, while science does its job at finding a cure or a vaccine.

The avarage age of people being hospitalized is rapidly falling and young poeople in their 30s, 40s, and 50s are having terrible primary (this means directly caused by the virus, for which there is no medicine and antibiotics do nothing) pneumonias. This is not just something that hits the “old and sick” (which by the way, did not make it any less serious, the old and sick are people like us as well), they are certainly more affected, but it can kill anyone and it can send anyone to the hospital for even 3 weeks. “Patient 1” in Italy was a 38 years old man without pre-existing conditions that has been on the brink of death for nearly 20 days, he just recovered but very nearly kicked the bucket.

Stay safe everyone, do not underestimate this virus it’s very serious.

Personally, I already know because I have a background in science (chemistry), at the same time, I wonder if the administrators of Vault should not precisely pin a similar message on the Forum and on Vault (by copying what is announced by the World Health Organization).

I’m at home now these two last days, and I will be home tomorrow as well. Even though I only have a slight cold (don’t think it’s the virus in my case, but one never knows as they don’t test people in my country at the moment) and I am very, don’t know the exact english word but, “alert” or “vital”, as in I don’t have a fever at all, but the guidelines at the school where I work are: “If you are the least bit sick, stay at home”. So it sucks, and I’m quite bored, and I try to stay isolated. Good news perhaps is that I did quite a lot of work on my module today…but if I went to work, I know I would have had more energy to sit down and work on it when getting home, it would have been more fun, because of the change of pace.

I totally agree with you andgalf. I will be “officially” retired on next month, in fact I already am for more than one year. As all France (France stupidly thought we could do better than Italy), I am now confined at home missing lectures at the University, and activity as volunteer for an association that helps blind and visually impaired people.
After a long while getting used to my new life, I restarted to work on a new campaign, but the virus came. Since I’m confined, well motivation has declined. Exactly as you say, it would have been more fun because of the change of pace.
As Clangeddin and raymondsebas said, it’s f… serious, stricly follow social distanciation and take care.
