Post warning

Today I started to post to a lively thread and got a warning notice about having posted more than 20% of the messages. Seriously? On a forum with a tiny population of posters? Heh, okay fine I’ll shut up. :stuck_out_tongue:

For the statistics open the “hamburger” menu (3 horizontal lines between your avatar and the search icon). Select users. On the drop-down menu select year.

I’ve run into that as well. In my case it was the “expanding sigil” thread where I was making progress updates.

That’s going to make status and announcement threads awkward. Is it something that can be turned off?

Yeah, yeah, okay I’m a somewhat prolific poster. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: It’s not like I’m being a troublemaker.

You’re not that bad and that wasn’t the point of that post. It was genuinely just a FYI. Anyway, if you click on the top of the columns, you’ll see who really is the most prolific poster (same result if you set the time-frame to all time).

[sidles to edge of screen, whistling innocently] Didn’t realise honestly guys… [vanishes in a cloud of dust and a thunder of paws]

Here’s another “guidance” message I just received when I started to post a reply to the Project FL thread:

Seriously? Dude, I’m 60. I think I know how to hold a conversation by now. Besides, he was encouraging feedback, not a conversation.

These messages are actively discouraging participation.

A. I’ll never give my age. Either you’re brave or crazy or both from my perspective and
B. We would all hope to be able to hold a conversation on here.

The one that I’ve learned to ignore is the “That topic/conversation/whatever is very like this other conversation”, Yeah, whatever. Get a life Marvin (Hitch Hiker Guide to the Galaxy reference).

Neither. There’s other information I won’t give up, but my age… meh.

@niv can we turn off the suggestion boxes? The one that drives me crazy is the “Your post is similar too…” which pops up umpteen times when composing a new thread. Similar to? No it effing ain’t.

I love the new forums, but…

That’s the one I mentioned in post 10 and I totally agree about turning these annoyances off and loving the new forums.

I went through the settings and disabled everything that had the word “educate” in it. Sheesh.

Edit: This is discourse adding new features without advertising them. I had to disable this bot thing too. Looking foward to this becoming a stable release we can stick to.

Thanks, Niv, I was starting to long for the old forums - glitches and all.

I don’t know about you but this is cracking me up :joy:. Listen to the forum, it knows what’s best for you.

It’s seems to have stopped being a nagging back-seat-driver now. Thank you.

@niv when creating a post, it’s still telling me that my post is similar to dissimilar stuff.

Quite hard to find the escape key in that situation, seems you have to expand the window until all the dissimilar guff is visible.
