As there are now at least 2 projects that have/are giving an HD make-over to portraits I’m wondering what else can such a make-over be given to. That is which things can now be upscaled that I always thought had to be of a fixed size? For example can item icons have this done to them without breaking the game?
Pity. I have come across a bunch of jewellery images that the artist has labelled as free to use. Most of the rings are around this size -
while shrinking to 32x32 gives -
TBH, apart from some larger (non-ring) pieces, I don’t know if the effort to extract, remove the grey background to transparent, shrink, etc. would be worth it.
There’s some good individual retouches but even CEPs leave a lot to be desired. I don’t have specific knowledge of NWN models but if they’re tradtionally atlassed then you should be able to just impose a larger atlas.
You don’t need to resize icons to 32x32. With UI scaling 256x256 is fine, it also resizes down fine generally.
Mouse cursors can be larger on the preview patch too.
I’m doing Overhaul with others which I hope to release a version of soon, we lack artists doing HD models to improve some base content. Some people are improving tileset textures though which helps a lot, and the more common placeables.
I’m not touching CEP content (talk about a whole load more work and cruft…) but will be doing a second version with new HD stuff in it.
Thanks. However will still need to do the 32x32 versions for the 1.69 version though. So that’s two different versions. So that gives (as an example) -
Original cleaned up prior to resizing.
256x256 and
32x32
Does that mean yet a third version of CEP (CEP 2.x incorporating 1.x, CEP 3 and CEP HD) then?
I don’t think Jasperre implied anything of the kind.
In general, HD projects are very unlikely to have the labour resources or motivation to tackle all the custom content out there (CEP or otherwise) so players will either live with appearances of mixed quality or disable HD packs when playing custom modules.

Tried 256x256 and just got a totally black square.
