Slow load of main page

Same for me

but quite the opposite.
Like Carlo, I found that it’s quicker when not logged in.

FWIW I normally check the vault first to see if I need to respond to anything from a player. Then I hit the forum link at the top of the page and it brings me straight here, almost no lag at all.

This.

The forums have a separate setup. For example, at the moment the main Vault page is down due to an internal server error, something which happens regularly. But the forums are smooth.

When you log in with your account, it looks like the interface needs to go through and count up the number of new messages that you haven’t viewed. Perhaps this step is what is taking so long? Could it be done asynchronously? The only other differences seem to be the ‘Who’s Exploring’ and ‘Latest Adventurers’ boxes.

It’s only an issue of the main vault page itself, or its request to be precise. Any other sub-page is served quickly. I actually blocked everything within the main page’s HTML and it still took way too long to serve an “empty” page. EDIT: disabling JS or doing a single HTTP request yield the same result.

Like other posters here wrote, currently the best course of action is to log-in on a sub-page that doesn’t redirect you to home.

Also like @Carlo said, forums use Discourse which - while apparently running on the same hardware - is complete different software. Vault is Drupal 7 (<meta> says so), still with LTS almost until 2023, though version 9 has been released a few days ago.

More concerning for me is what’s with not supporting internet explorer soon !

I’m perfectly happy with my no adverts internet explorer with a duck duck go browser and don’t want anything to do with Google near my PC.

Any ideas on what to use that will give me the same browser straight off from a click on the desktop ? I’ve got Firefox on my tablet but it still goes to their home page and I can’t seem to change the browser settings either.

I’m using Firefox on both my main PC and my laptop. For me it’s still the best browser. When it comes to no adverts I’m using Adblock Plus.

I don’t mind Firefox but if I put it on my PC can I have another homepage ? So I click Firefox on my desktop and go straight to the other homepage ?

Ok I’ve done it !

I downloaded Firefox got it running and dragged an open Duckduckgo plain browser page onto the homepage icon on Firefox. Now if I load Firefox from the desktop it goes straight to the plain duckduckgo browser page.

I’ll still keep using internet explorer so this is a back up for when I’m not allowed here and have an emergency toolset crisis that’s driving me mad !

As for the original topic which I hijacked ( sorry ) I don’t think it’s that slow although the main page takes longer than the forums without me being logged in so it can’t be loading my messages. However I do have trouble logging in, I fill in the boxes and it says I’m not authorised for something ( can’t remember what ) then I go to the forum page and click login and it logs me in without me typing anything again… It’s a bit strange but that loads and logs in really fast.

I think it is a matter of location. Though it is a bit slow for me, it’s certainly not hair-pullingly so, merely an inconvenience. Since we can’t do much about it, I usually load it in the background, along with other sites I’m checking, and once they’re all ready, so is the vault.

If it loads fine before logging in, but very slow after you log in, I don’t think location should matter.
