Submission standards?

Hi there,
Not 100% sure this is the right place to ask this, but I want to contribute back the things I’ve been making for my module as I get content with the state of things. I was wondering what the standards for submission are.

Specifically the module itself if I uploaded it contains content from other places CEP2, a few other things, and community contributions from the forums. They’re credited where I’ve taken them, but I was wondering if there’s other standards for posting these kinds of things? Preferred ways of credit? Perhaps people prefer I didn’t post a module that has others’ efforts? And so on.

Giving credit for content is expected, but you can do that any way you like. A name check will do, or a link, if you prefer.

No need to credit forum helpers unless you want to.

For CEP 2.x no credit is necessary if you have it as a Required Project. The CEP documention already credits contributors where possible.

You’re positively encouraged to use other people’s work, unless their terms state otherwise (see guidelines for detail).

An example of what Im wondering with regards to CEP2, for instance: All other things being done properly and equal, can I redistribute the hakpaks as used by my module (so as to provide a “full package”) or would it be considered best to link externally to these hakpaks?

It’s no skin off my back either way but I want to make sure I would be doing this properly

Only seems fair to me, when people help me out. Not that more than maybe a few people will ever look at the scripts, I reckon.

To prevent people’s SSD/HD from filling up with numerous copies of the CEP (or parts thereof), it is generally preferred that it is linked to in the required projects. No need to extract stuff to put in your own hak as most people will have their own copy of the CEP anyway.

Yeah, that would be my thought too, but I’ve worked on things for other games where the places that I’ve submitted wanted it to include everything needed to run it.

Another question: would it be considered gauche to submit a module that isn’t complete? My goal is to try to be fairly open in development so the things we (myself and those helping me with this) are making can be used by others whom find them helpful, but I could see people being annoyed by an incomplete state. Maybe I could offer specific isolated parts until its done? (Ie, specific scripts, etc.)

I apologise if this is belabouring the point here but I know I’m new here, and I want to make sure everything I’m doing is on the up and up

While others have done so, I consider it better to get someone else to playtest it for you (I am assuming a sp module here) so when that is done you can release a complete working module.

Nice idea. As long as the things you release don’t give spoilers to your module that definitely sounds like it could be useful for other people too.

BTW, if you are going to be creating a hak of your own, don’t forget the various monthly Custom Content Challenges. Their contents are meant for such haks. If you haven’t done so already,
grab the catalogue. Amongst other things it contains links to all the previous challenges.

Just to clarify this is for a persistent world server, though my own approach has favoured being open about development and my approaches rather than keeping the module close to the chest as some others have. But it’s probably worthwhile to wait until its something that all of the core systems are working in, that much is fair.

Nah this would be scripts around some of the special features, some of which are probably more useful than others but I thought I might as well put it out there for people whom are facing the same scripting problems I’m trying to solve, big and small as they may be.

I’d had some specific ones I’d looked at, but I didn’t know there was that catalogue, thanks for that!

[Disclaimer] I maintain that catalogue and when there’s a new version I post on here to let people know.
