This is a blog/ development thread about my newest NWN1 Module The Blue Ridge Expedition Beta. This module is built upon the MIT created module American Revolution ( American Revolution | The Neverwinter Vault )released by ChaosQueen_Kara_8 here on the neverwintervault. All Credits for American Revolution haks and original game areas go to the Teachers at MIT University who created the awesome custom content. I have added three new audio haks- The Forest Of No Memory by J Wildfire T and 7 songs by P. Murch and a hak with some old classical music from public domain. Started work on this version in late 2021 but it has set on a virtual shelf on my computer the last 2 years while I worked on some others projects. But back working on the mod now (October 2023) and plan to release it on the main neverwinter vault sometime in the next couple of months hopefully by the end of the year when its in a more finished state. But if anyone wants me to go ahead and upload the mod here on the vault in its unfinished state I can do that too…
This module is in very early BETA development and still needs a ton of work. Its mainly going to be about exploring the Blue Ridge Mts area near the Chattooga river where NC GA and SC meet. But will also eventually have a few historical quests. If you travel in the mod on the Fall Line Rd from Williamsburg Va you should
be able to hike down to Pendleton SC. Be sure to find and equip a weapon because there are a few wild animals but most areas are empty for now. Also my version is Historical Fiction not trying to be 100% correct historical and there will be light magical use for players and npcs. I didn’t try to fix the existing/ original quests from American Revolution mod and inactivated most of the custom scripts because some weren’t working correctly and I’m not able to fix the problems. I highly recommend potential players of this Blue Ridge Expedition mod to first download and try out the original American Revolution mod this is based on so you will see what I have changed and because I think it really is an Amazing mod that needs more attention… First release of The Blue Ridge Expedition Beta- October 2023 Version 2b.
Link is to 3 zip files with all things necessary for this module to work (no GUI changes in The Blue Ridge Expedition mod). I’m sure you all know but for anyone new just put the mod file in the modules folder, put the Bic files in the localvault folder, and put the hak files in the hak folder and the game should work… Mod hasn’t been playtested to work on NWN EE but I’m hoping it will work. Enjoy!
If you first download and play the module American Revolution you only need to add 4 hakpaks to your hak folder to get The Blue Ridge Expedition module to work. You can download just these 4 individual hakpaks on The Blue Ridge Expedition page linked to above instead of downloading the hak zip with all 27 hakpaks.
These are the 4 files you will need if you already have American Revolution mod and its haks installed.
- BRidgeExp_mus.hak
- Nomemory_wav.hak
- P_Murch_Songs.hak
- rustic_shelters.hak
Let me know if you have any trouble getting module to work or have any suggestions but please know this module is very incomplete right now.
Thank you and hope you enjoy!
Thanks for pointing out that something like the (American) Revolution exists. A neat module
I already messed around with it and packed the haks new (there are now 6 left) and remove the tlk by moving the strings into the scripts. Maybe I’m going forward and remove some of the faults others are complaining about.
Awesome! The American Revolution mod has some amazing custom content but could really use someone who understands scripts to go over it and fix a few bugs so more people can enjoy it in the future. Unfortunately I’m not good with scripts but figured I could build an extension to the original mod and hopefully make it interesting.
Would be cool if all the custom placeables and other custom things from this module could be included in CEP or something where more builders could use the resources in other modules.
Unfortunately I’m not good with scripts
You don’t need to. I don’t want to spend too much time, so just tell me where the bugs are, if you know any.
The main bugs I remember are
-
The individual quests for the P.C.'s don’t work properly. I wasn’t able to complete or move forward in quests.
-
The townfolk in Williamsburg all say crazy things like “there goes a naked person” even when you have clothing equipped on your character. One even has a line referencing Forgotten Realms.
In The Blue Ridge Expedition I removed the 1 hour time limit and built the module without the tlk file and no override files to change the gui either. I also changed all the main scripts under module properties tab back to the default nwn1 scripts.
The individual quests for the P.C.'s don’t work properly. I wasn’t able to complete or move forward in quests.
Fine, that’s not easy. There’s not much of direction what the authors had in mind with the quests. I.E. I don’t know where Dan is supposed to find some bread for Uncle Tom. Is there anywhere some documentation? On MIT or The Archive?
One should not let teachers mess around with modules …
I just read the documents for American Revolution and it tells how to set up the files on your computer for the game to work but no walk through. I’m planning on writing new quests for The Blue Ridge Expedition.
Sorry but couldn’t resist… I don’t suppose there’s a big fat guy and a smaller thinner one in the party…
FWIW and believe it or not that apparently reached #2 in the uk singles chart in 1975.

Thank you that is hilarious. Old comedy is the funniest comedy to me…
Very well, I’ve seen the docu. Without any further documentation, it would be too much effort to figure out what the authors had in mind. So I drop the project.
Sorry I couldn’t be more help. Most of whats going on in that American Revolution module is beyond my understanding but I really love what they did with the tilesets and the hakpaks.
Edit November 12th 2023: Added version 4a. Made 3 new areas- Honea Path, Rocky River Crossing, and Upcountry Hills, added a companion in Williamsburg Village near entrance to Fall Line Road, changed most npc conversations in Williamsburg Village, and made a few other small changes.
Here is the link to newest version:
January 7th 2024. Added version 7a with several new areas- Seneca River Village, Oconee Station Path, Brasstown Falls, and Wilderness Path. Also made alot of other small changes. Added a few screenshots too.
I was hoping to be finished with this module now at the first of 2024 but I believe it’s going to be at least 6 months and possibly a year or more before this module will be close to being finished.
