I’m enjoying playing the IWD module, but ran into a strange bug all of a sudden on level 5 of Dragon’s Eye. Suddenly I am unable to move the QuickCast menu: it suddenly “jumped” up to the upper part of the screen (just below the minimap) while I was in a fight, and now I can only move it sideways and up - but not down.
Have tried “resetting” guisettings.ini, but that did not help. Nor did restarting the game. In fact, the bug “spreads” to other saves in other campaigns.
EDIT: also, I have now tried editing guisettings.ini and “hard coding” the position, which seemed to work - until I tried to move it (ever so gently); that instant it jumped up again and the problem persists.
So far the only way I’ve succeeded in “fixing” this is by typing the position where I want it in guisettings.ini, and setting “draggable=true” in quickcast.xml (from Tcho) to “false” instead.
Interestingly enough, when I use my browser’s search engine (Brave), I get an AI-generated response stating that this does sometimes happen - but there is no real evidence to confirm this, as the sites given as context do not say anything about this (at least I haven’t found anything to suggest this). But look at this answer - does anyone have the ability to show or hide the quickcast panel in the Interface settings (other than hiding it once a target has been chosen)?
I do not get such an answer if using Google or Bing.
I am using NWN4X.
EDIT: No, I am not. I mixed this up with the NWN2 Client Extension, sorry.
Anyway, it doesn’t matter if I run the game with the normal or the changed exe.
Finally, restarting the entire computer did not help either, so now I am officially utterly, completely and without question AT A LOSS.

It does in fact seem as if the engine all of a sudden takes the height given in quickcast.xml into account, and does not permit to move the panel down unless I actually set the height value lower (when I changed it from height 844 to 704, I could move it a bit down).
Also, starting a new game does not help either.
This is extremely weird, as it happened in the middle of a fight, and at first I just dismissed it as YET another visual bug in NWN2 (the hotbar being notoriously unstable, at least in my games…).
EDIT: and now, as the final nail in the coffin: reinstalling the game (just installing it again on top of the previous installation; did not remove custom files and settings/ui) did not work either.
I don’t think this is so important that I will uninstall the game, delete everything and reinstall it all from scratch. It’s just so utterly weird, and happened out of the blue.
Ah, yes. Forgot to mention that. I tried using the normal executable as well, yes.

I have experienced the F key failing to do anything at all, but that is normally resolved by a restart.
Have you checked in all the normal places: override, haks, UI folders just in case another is clashing somewhere?
The problem with leaving it is if it is the side effect of a worse problem
Of course there MIGHT be something there, but I fail to see what it could be. If this behaviour had started when I installed ui mods and overrides, it would explain it, but it didn’t: it appeared out of the blue in a big fight against yuan-ti on level 5 of Dragon’s Eye. Believe me, I had to use spells all the way through those caverns, and this was not a problem before. I probably double-clicked or something the quick cast panel by mistake (as I said, these fights are quite heavy) in the chaos of battle… I noticed that it instantly jumped up when I clicked even once after having restarted the game, before I tried setting it to not draggable and typing the position I want it in guisettings.ini.
Have never seen anything like this before, and I played NWN2 for about 10 years before taking a break in 2018…
As for if this might be a side effect of a worse problem: I’ve noticed that I basically can turn off the hotbar (have to disable and enable it after having played for some time) since it is very unstable. I am much better off going into the inventory and activating items and switching weapons from there instead. Granted, this was a problem also years back at times, but now it happens after just a few minutes of playing.
E.g., the # of potions I have can be viewed as “0” on the hotbar; when I open the inventory, it shows 5 - and the hotbar is updated with the correct number. Often the character will only drink it if I choose it from the inventory and not the hotbar, though.

Do you have access to a second computer to test a new and a saved game from the first computer?
I’m not at main PC at the moment, so can’t check anything. Have to log off now and may not get opportunity to respond again until Monday… Possibly this evening, but unlikely.
Hopefully you’ll have got some other answers or sorted it by then.
I’ll check back later if I get the opportunity.
EDIT: I read over your posts again and you say that it affects other games too … Therefore, I am unable to offer any other advise I’m afraid. My last advice would be to move all your override and Custom UI folders away or to the desktop for a test (if they contain files) and then see if the base OC campaign module works OK. If it still fails, then I don’t know.

No, it didn’t. I completely reinstalled the game yesterday because another thing that did not work (your mention that this could be the tip of the iceberg only for more profound problems; but which turned out to be a botched soundset.2da - last edited using NWN 2DA editor, so I will probably not use that in the future…) but the problem seems to have established itself: even after a complete reinstall the quickcast.xml appears to be “stuck” in a position relative to the height value given.
But everyhting else works, so I think we’ll the the dead horse rest…

Not being able to move a menu to a point where its maximum height would exceed the screen height is perfectly normal. You mention you change the height from 844 to 704 - the default value is 444, so you presumably have modded it to be of a much greater height than usual. Try changing it back and see if it helps.
It would totally agree - were it not for the fact that previous to the notorious big fight in which this occurred, I could move the quck cast panel everywhere I wanted on the screen. It was first after the problem occurred I started to fiddle with quickcast.xml.
If I set Height to 444 I guess I can move it further down, but as I’ve said - this hasn’t been a problem before.
I use Tcho’s HD ui, that’s where this file comes from. Worked without any incident until that fight.
Believe me; I’m outta ideas. But, it works anyway, so I’ll leave the matter be.
Just was utterly confusing, is all.
