Upload without changing file name

Is there a way to upload an updated text file (ie not compressed) without the file name being changed each time it is updated (ie file.text, becomes file_0.txt).

If there is another way to update a text file directly without the upload, then that would also be good.

I am still trying to find a solution to this problem. Can a text file be upload somewhere else on the site where the filename does not change?

Does anyone have any ideas?
