Where do I report toolset error messages? (RESOLVED)!

Yes.

Moneo is the easiest way, once you get over the initial learning curve.

Alternatively,

  • open the module in the toolset
  • find the area .git file in \modules\temp0
  • edit the .git with gffeditor
  • make any trivial change to the module to enable save

This method is tedious if the area contains a lot of objects.

Either way, back up the module first, obviously.

Hi Kamiryn,

I verified and repaired…then opened the toolset…still have the same issue.

I will send you a link via PM here to you. I hope that works.

Hey thanks Proleric,

I downloaded the GFFEEditor from the vault. Looks complicated. There are only 4 or 5 chests in that area. I guess the best way would be to delete one chest at a time. I just know that it is one of those chests causing the issue…why I don’t know. I can walk around that maze until I get right next to that one room before it crashes. There is a big chest in there.

If you want you can take a look for yourself. I can send you the link to my one drive too.

OMG…how the hell am I suppose to know what is what in that area?

This is what i see when I open the .are

Hi Proleric,

I went to the following site to try to understand this more…good grief:

https://nwn.wiki/display/NWN1/GFF

I honestly have no clue whatsoever on how to use this. I researched more…still no luck. I have no computer literacy/programming skills on this level. I was kind of hoping to just delete the chests one by one to fix this…but I can’t even tell what is what in that GFFE

As best as I can figure out is that the only real difference in each line is that :Tile ID

Are those items/placeables/creatures/triggers/encounters?

This is my .are
cavei.zip (15.0 KB)

The .are file describes the area settings and the tiles. To find the things other than tiles in the area you need the .git file.

Oh…thanks…how do I open a .git file?

The same way you opened the .are file.

Thanks guys…yup I opened it…I can see the placeables and other stuff. I will look for those chests…then delete one by one…I see you can even see the tag and resref…can you change those in this? If so I would rather change those than delete the whole chest.

ARRRRGGGHHH…

So I open the .git…no problem

I open up the placeables…no problem

I find the chest I want to delete…no problem

I delete that “node” (32)…then save

PROBLEM…when I open the same .git …that node (32) is still there…!!!

What the hades???

Shouldn’t it have saved the change?

Step 1

Opened .git went to the placeables as per below

Step 2

I opened the placeables tree root as per below and found the chest I want to delete:

Step 3

I deleted node 32 and SAVED IT…showing no node 32

I opened the same .git after to confirm if it was saved…NOPE…still there…what am I missing?

Did you check that it is the same chest that you deleted? I don’t think those entries are actually numbered in the GFF file (they are just a list) so the tool probably renumbered when you reopened it. I’ve never used that tool though…

Fetch…you are right meaglyn…

When I saved it and reopened it…sure 32 was there but it was a different placeable…weird thing is…there were 99 placeables…you’d think if one deletes one…it would drop to 98…but nope…I will keep experimenting…thanks.

It probably only displays up to 2 digits worth, and you actually have more than that. But that’s just a guess…

Ok…I deleted those chests…assuming it was the chests due to the error I got from the error log…and still can’t get in there…what the fudge…how am I suppose to isolate what the item/creature/placeable/trigger/encounter is causing the problem?..for heaven’s sake…sheesh
